How Do Filipino’s Sympathize Halloween

Halloween or Undas is a holiday on which filipinos believe to be holy. This is a two-three day celebration. This holiday reminds the filipinos of their deceased family, friend, and etc. On western traditions, people love to dress up in this occasion. And this is how we do halloween this year:

Every year, people go to the cemetery to pay a visit to their loved ones. People usually bring flowers and foods – some foods and all the flowers are offered to the dead.

We light candles to pay respect to the dead. Each family or a group of people must light atleast one candle. Children must learn this tradition so that this tradition will not disappear throughout years.

We usually stay for hours on the grass and talk about how the deceased person lived his life.

Some build tents so that they can sleep on the cemetery throughout the night.

After we give our respect and we are all ready to go home, we passed by on some vendors on the streets.

Ofcourse, this is a great night to sell things.

Well, as expected, there are more than a dozen food shops inside the cemetery.

And lastly, let us not forget the time consuming traffic.

The filipino halloween is not all about flowers, foods(kinda), nor trip. It is about how we express our love to those who loved us until the day they died. It is a reunion of people and experiences to be shared. And let us not forget to love your family and friends, and let us have a happy halloween.
